About Fred Stockwell Photography
Fred Stockwell has been working as a professional aerial photographer for the past 20 years.
Stockwell grew up in postwar London and began traveling at an early age. His travels took him from England to the Middle East, from Paris to West Africa, across several continents and through many exotic places around the globe. Eventually he landed in America and chose Ashland, Oregon as his home. His camera is his constant companion and his tool to record life and document history.
Aerial photography naturally evolved due to his love of flight. In England, he won the coveted Tiger Medallion, for enterprising aviation. The award was presented at The Royal Aero Club dinner, by Prince Phillip, Prince Andrew and Sarah Fergeson, for a competition called "Dawn to Dusk". In the USA, he has received awards from the NAA and the USHGA for his contributions to un-powered flight and pioneering and publishing a magazine on paragliding.
Stockwell is primarily a photographer of environments with an uncanny ability to photograph an ordinary scene and give you a thought-provoking glimpse of how he sees the world. His straightforward style and visionary sense of beauty combine in this format to capture views you are rarely privileged to see.
Fred always loves the challenge of a new project, and the diversity of his work shows in his portfolio. Rarely can he anticipate what sort of things will inspire him, but he confronts life with a vital curiosity and a readiness to "see" things that others merely look at. Using photography as a creative visual language, his work, seeks to help others see and understand the world we all live in. |
