Situated just 14 miles north of the California border on I-5 is the lovely town of Ashland. It was founded in 1855 and was home to a flourmill and a lumber mill. Not surprisingly, it was originally called Ashland Mills. Today, it is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland Independent Film Festival, Southern Oregon University and about 20,000 people.

Ashland sits at the far southern end of the Rogue Valley, which includes the towns of Talent, Phoenix, Medford, Central Point, Gold Hill, Rogue River and Grants Pass. The Valley is very diverse being both rural, with orchards, ranches and farms, and urban with many outstanding restaurants, theaters, the Britt Music Festival, wineries that are gaining recognition as some of the best in the Pacific Northwest and some of the best salmon and steelhead fishing in the country.
